We like to choose sustainable practices here on our farm! Since our flowers are harvested fresh at the perfect time and placed directly into water, they have a nice long vase life.
Flower Care Tips:
Fresh locally grown blooms have a long vase life all on their own but here are some tips to ensure you get the longest enjoyment out of your flowers:
Get them home and inside.
-
Treat flowers like fresh food. They will wilt quickly sitting in the sun in a hot car. Once at home, keep them out of direct sunlight.
Cut stems, change water, and use provided flower food.
-
Change the water every other day and add a dash of flower food to the vase.
-
Cut stems when you change the water. Cutting the stem ensures fresh water is able to be absorbed more readily and keeps the stem clear of bacteria.
Clean your vase:
-
You want your vase so clean that you would drink from it. A run through the dishwasher is an easy way to sanitize it.
These tips will give your flowers the best vase life possible.
Things to consider:
To provide you with the longest vase life possible, flowers are cut early and slightly before they are fully open. If a flower looks small on the first day, don't fret, it will eventually open up to full bloom.
Since our flowers are field-grown without the use of chemicals. Keep in mind, that some flowers may drop pollen or petals. Remember this when deciding where and how you display your arrangement.
We use pollen-less sunflowers for this reason but do grow other flower varieties that can shed pollen.
